BEIJING, July 29-- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday held phone talks with his Australian counterpart, Julie Bishop, about the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.

After being briefed by Bishop on the latest developments in the international investigation, in which Australia also participates, Wang again expressed sympathies with the families of the victims, saying the crash was a tragic incident.

It is urgent for concerned parties to earnestly implement UN Security Council Resolution 2166 and ensure international investigators' immediate access to the crash site, so that they could find out the truth as soon as possible, Wang said.

To this end, he added, China calls on the conflicting parties in Ukraine to realize a ceasefire at an early date for a smooth implementation of the probe into the crash.

Bishop said that Australia backs an independent international investigation over the MH17 crash and will work together with all parties to push ahead the implementation of Resolution 2166.

The ill-fated Malaysia Airlines passenger plane, a Boeing 777 airliner, went down on July 17 in the restive east of Ukraine, killing all 298 people on board.

The two sides also talked about the March 8 disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

Wang expressed the hope that all parties will continue to strengthen cooperation and search for the missing flight as planned in a bid to find its whereabouts as early as possible.

Bishop said that Australia will keep close cooperation with China to carry on the search for the vanished jetliner, which carried 239 people, including 154 Chinese.
