Exclusive: Swiss ambassador to China receives first video interview with Chinese media

The newly appointed Swiss ambassador to China, Jean-Jacques de Dardel received an exclusive video interview with People’s Daily Online during his visit to the website on June 6, the first of its kind since his took office in China.

Before the interview, deputy editor-in-chief of the People’s Daily Online Shan Chengbiao met with the ambassador and introduced to him the recent development of the website. They also exchanged views on various topics including the development of the new media.

Dardel said that he attaches great importance to People’s Daily Online and often reads articles on foreign versions of the website. He extended congratulation to the website’s newly launched German edition, which he said would pay close attention to. In the interview, Dardel covered various topics including the Sino-Swiss Free Trade Agreement which would come into effect this July, trade and economic development between the two countries, Chinese investment in Switzerland, cultural exchanges, etc.
