Xiong majored in economic management in Hunan University, trained under the coach of Liu Henglin since 1998. Xiong has a chance to become only the second diver in history to win medals at four Olympic Games. Italy's Klaus Dibiasi, accomplished that feat from 1964-1976. Xiong came within 1.14 points of Greg Louganis in the 10m Platform competition in 1988 Seoul Olympic Games.
