About One Million Helped Out of Poverty in China
For the past several years, the whole army and police have conscientiously carried out the strategic aim set by the state departments concerned for eliminating poverty.
Combining enthusiasm with scientific attitudes, they help those living still in poverty to raise production and improve medical and educational conditions. So far nearly 30,000 help-the-poor bases have been set up, resulting in nearly 1 million people on their way to become prosperous. Typical are those areas in the Ningmen Mountains, Yan'an, Jinggang Mountains and Dabie Mountain. In Ningmen Mountain Areas, for example, there are 3400 villages with 170,000 people that have been helped out of the poverty. In the Three Gorges, poor farmers who have been lifted out of poverty amount to a number of over 60,000 with the help of army units and local authorities in the place.
