CASS, Japanese Embassy Join Hands in Poverty Fight
The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the Japanese Embassy announced in Beijing on July 7 that they'll join hands in helping a northern Chinese county get rid of poverty.
The two sides have agreed that CASS will study and put forward a feasible poverty-fighting plan for Danfeng County, a mountainous county in the northwest China province of Shaanxi. The Japanese Embassy will help promote governmental and non-governmental economic cooperation with the county, one of the poorest in China.
Officials from the embassy said that Japanese entrepreneurs and individuals will be called upon to participate in the poverty-fighting. Danfeng County and the embassy also signed an agreement in Beijing Wednesday. The latter pledged to donate about US$80,000 to help build two primary schools, three clinics and some water supply facilities in the county
