China Fighting Against Flood

Water Rise Slowing on Yangtze's Lower Reaches

The rise of the water level on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River has slowed on July 22, but due to a prolonged rush of flood waters the banks and levees are facing more problems.

The sections at Jiujiang and Boyang Lake in east China's Jiangxi Province have seen their water levels hovering above the danger levels for 22 days.

By Wednesday evening, there were 1,116 danger spots reported on the banks and levees on the section of the Yangtze in Jiangxi. But the problems were dealt with in time.

Experts say that in the coming two days the water levels on the lower reaches of the Yangtze will continue to rise, but the momentum of the rise is slowing. (Xinhua)
