China Fighting Against Flood

Yangtze Water Level Rise Slowing

The rising momentum of the water level of the Yangtze River is slowing down on July 21, with the level at this capital of Central China's Hubei Province having edged up by 0.06 m. over yesterday to 28.73 m. at five p.m., as compared with the 0. 2 m. daily rise since July 17.

Currently, more than 40,000 people are stationed on the dykes and dams of the Yangtze, with necessary materials to repair any breaches.

An official of the Hubei provincial flood control headquarters said that the water level on the mainstream of the Yangtze has hovered above the danger level for over 20 days.

Tuesday alone, inspectors discovered 52 danger spots on the dykes, and plugged them in time. By late yesterday, 308 danger spots had been discovered and dealt with. (Xinhua)
