China Fighting Against Flood

Floods Again Suspend Xinjiang Railway Transportation

A northern Xinjiang section of the Lanzhou-Urumqi railway was closed again July 21 not long after the resumption of transportation that stopped Tuesday because of heavy floods.

In the southern Xinjiang section of the railway that connects Gansu Province and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, both in northwest China, operations have been going on without interruption since early this morning, according to local sources.

Flood waters, caused by days of rainstorms, damaged a bridge in the northern section of the line and another in the southern section Tuesday morning, and this led to the suspension of railway transportation.

Teams are repairing the damage to ensure the resumption of railway transport as soon as possible, said an official of the Xinjiang Railway Administration Bureau. (Xinhua)
