China Fighting Against Flood

Flooding in Jiangxi Getting Worse

The latest information from east China's Jiangxi Province shows that flooding on the Yangtze River and Poyang Lake is becoming more serious.

According to figures from local hydrological departments, it has been 18 days since the water levels of Poyang Lake and at Jiujiang section of the Yangtze River, exceeded the danger line.

Experts pointed out that the water levels of the river and lake are rising at a daily average range of 0.15 m, and will reach 22.5 m and 22 m, respectively, around July 22, only a little lower than the record levels in 1998.

At 2 p.m. July 18, the water level at Jiujiang hit 22.08 m, 2.58 m over the danger line.

The water levels at two hydrological stations by the lake hit 21.55 m and 21.62 m, respectively, 2.55 m and 2.62 m over the danger lines. (Xinhua)
