China Fighting Against Flood

Navigation Resumes At China's Three Gorges Project

Temporary locks at the Three Gorges Dam Project on the Yangtze river opened on July 2 morning after having been shut down for 3 days because of recent flooding.

According to Yichang city government officials and Yangtze Three Gorges Project Development Corporation officials, the locks closed when the water flow went above 45,000 cubic meters per second on June 30 because of heavy rainfall on the upper reaches of the Yangtze.

The river channel was open to shipping at the Three Gorges Project until this year's flood season.

Ships can pass through safely when the water flow there is below 45,000 cubic meters per second. The water flow today was measured at 42,200 cubic meters per second. (Xinhua)
