China Bans Falun Gong

Efforts to Ban Falun Gong & Safeguard Stability Urged

A commentary released in Beijing Friday by the Xinhua News Agency said that only by outlawing illegal organizations in accordance with law can social and political stability be achieved and the interests of the overwhelming majority of Chinese be safeguarded.

Facts have demonstrated that the Falun Gong organization controlled by Li Hongzhi is a tightly organized cult, the commentary said, its supreme organ in China is the Falun Dafa Research Society (FDRS) in Beijing. Under the FDRS, there are 39 general stations, 1,900 instruction centers, and 28,000 exercising sites. Li Hongzhi sent his instructions through these general stations, instructions centers, and exercising sites.

However, this large and tightly run organization failed to go through any legitimate registration procedures. Therefore, it has violated China's Constitution and the regulations on citizen associations, the commentary said.

The illegal activities of Falun Gong such as spreading superstition and stirring up disturbances have also violated the country's regulation that social organizations should abide by the Constitution and avoid harming the interests of the State and deviating from social morality, the commentary concluded.
