People's Daily Commentator Calls for Strengthening Party Discipline
Today's People' s Daily published a commentator's article calling for strengthened discipline of the Communist Party of China (CPC) through solving the Falun Gong problem.
The article points out that some Party members have participated in Falun Gong activities and some even became leading members in the illegal organization, bringing a negative influence on society.
This situation makes it a matter of urgency to strengthen Party discipline to abolish the slackness among some Party organizations, the article says, adding it is critical that the Falun Gong problem be first dealt with from within the Party.
Fierce international competition, as well as the hard work of reform and opening up and stability have made it imperative to build the Party in a strict manner. The issue of Falun Gong has helped people better understand this situation, it says.
It notes that the Party's political ambitions are to build China into a socialist country with Chinese characteristics and ultimately realize communism. However, Falun Gong has propagated fallacious ideas such as a "doomsday theory" and a "way to heaven" which go against the Party's doctrines and discipline.
If Li Hongzhi's heretical theories spread, the Party's foundation will be shaken, and the great cause will be undermined, it stresses.
It adds that Communists believe in science, which is in accordance with the law of history. Therefore, Party members must adhere to the scientific world view expounded by Marxism, and hold to materialism by opposing spiritualism, and follow atheism by opposing theism.
Facts have demonstrated the importance of teaching the Marxist world view among the whole Party, the article says, and only with an improved Marxist theoretical education can the Party build an ideological Great Wall to resist the infiltration of wrong and fallacious ideas, the article notes.
The article also stresses the importance of the Party's organizational life which has enabled the Party to survive so many difficult situations. However, for a period of time, there has been slackness among some Party organizations, and some Party members have not attended Party meetings for a long time, and they have seldom studied the Party's lines and policies or made criticisms and self-criticisms. As a result, they became captives of erroneous theories.
The article calls for action to deal with the Falun Gong problem, which is a serious political and ideological struggle that all Party members and organizations at various levels must plunge themselves into with a clear and firm stand.
It says that whether adhering to Marxism and atheism or taking belief in Falun Dafa and theism, whether abiding by the Party Constitution or obeying the "orders" of Falun Gong organizations, whether upholding materialism or indulging in spiritualism, are all matters of principle. The article asks the Party members who are Falun Gong practitioners to make a clear break with the outlawed organization and go back to the correct Party line.
The article also says that with the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee, the broad-based support of the people, and the pioneering and exemplary role of the broad ranks of Party members, China will win the battle against Falun Gong and the Party will become even stronger.
