Falun Gong Exposed by Sports Experts
A group of well-known Chinese athletes, coaches and workers engaged in physical education and physical science research gathered Friday in Beijing to expose the theism and pseudo-science of Falun Dafa, or Falun Gong, with the theory and practice of physical science.
At a forum convened by the State General Administration of Sport and the All-China Sports Federation, the participants voiced their support for the decision made by the Chinese Civil Affairs Ministry on outlawing the Research Society of Falun Dafa and firmly supported the circular issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) prohibiting Party members from practicing the outlawed Falun Gong.
Dr. Tian Maijiu, deputy president of the Beijing Physical Science University, noted that Li Hongzhi, founder of the outlawed Falun Gong, claims to be able to forecast the future and to have supernatural power, which is totally in violation of science, especially physical science.
"It is an important task for the community of physical education and physical science research to promote science and use scientific truth to educate the Chinese people, especially the youth," said Tian, who is also a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). He called on relevant departments to work out regulations on the management of Qigong as early as possible.
Zhang Shan, a former Olympic shooting champion, said Falun Gong has caused serious damage to China's social stability, and the fallacies concocted by Li Hongzhi do not hold water.
Zhang Changjiu, deputy head of the Institute of Sporting Medicine and also a research fellow on the testing of stimulants, said Li Hongzhi uses pseudo-science to deceive the Chinese people and to achieve his purpose of destroying China's stability and his personal ambitions.
Calling Li Hongzhi's malicious fallacies discouraging people with ailments from taking medicines or consulting doctors violations of medical science, Zhang said that it is the responsibility of physical science workers to step up publicity concerning scientific knowledge, and use the theory and practice of physical science to educate the Chinese people and let them understand better the true nature of Li Hongzhi's malicious fallacies.
