China Bans Falun Gong

PLA, Armed Police Support Government Ban on Falun Gong

Following the imposition by the Chinese authorities of a ban July 22 on Falun Gong, officers and men of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the armed police forces have hailed the ban as "a wise and resolute decision" and promised to give all-out support.

"In the past few days, all officers and men of the PLA and the armed police forces have earnestly studied a series of important speeches by President Jiang Zemin and materials exposing the true face of Falun Gong, so as to further unify their thinking and improve their understanding," said a senior officer with the PLA General Political Department.

The PLA and armed police officers and men all believe that the central authorities' decision to ban Falun Gong has an extremely important realistic significance for safeguarding social and political stability, ensuring the smooth development of China's reform, opening-up and modernization drive, and paving the way for the country's long-term prosperity and stability, noted the officer.

"As revolutionary soldiers, we must maintain sober political minds, constantly improve our Party spirit, enhance our political sensitivities and judgment, and foster a firm belief in Communism, " said a PLA soldier, who is also a member of the Communist Party of China.

According to PLA sources, many soldiers have vowed to take concrete action to safeguard the hard-won social stability and the achievements of reform and opening-up, and to serve as "loyal guards" of the Party and the people.

Military units across the country have held forums, seminars and lectures to educate the soldiers in Marxist materialism and atheism, and expose the deceptive, hypocritical and reactionary nature of Falun Gong, according to the sources.

In the Guangzhou Military Area Command, in south China, more than 30 revolutionary veterans who joined the army in the 1930s and 1940s gathered to voice their indignation at Falun Gong.

"We, who experienced the revolutionary wars, see this more clearly than anyone else: Only Marxism can save China and only the Chinese Communist Party can lead us to accomplish the great cause of reinvigorating the Chinese nation," they were quoted as saying. (Xinhua)
