China Bans Falun Gong

Officials, Employees of Central Organs Support Falun Gong Ban

Officials, Party members and ordinary employees of departments and enterprises of China's central authorities said in Beijing July 23 that they fully support the government ban on Falun Gong, an unregistered illegal organization spreading superstitious and heretical ideas, and disrupting social stability in the name of physical fitness exercises.

The Party Central Committee has made a significant decision in a resolute and timely manner, and has taken effective measures which have won the heartfelt support of the people, many of them noted.

China's ministries of civil affairs and public security Thursday announced that Falun Gong, founded and headed by Li Hongzhi, was illegal and imposed a nationwide ban on it. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) also issued a circular forbidding all Party members to practice Falun Gong.

The ban on Falun Gong represents the fundamental interests and common aspirations of the Chinese people, said an employee of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee.

"Under the pretext of 'promoting health', the Falun Gong organizations have conducted many illegal activities which seriously disturbed the normal order of society, confused the people's moral and ethical concepts, deceived many innocent people and inflicted enormous harm on their physical and mental health," said one researcher at the Party School of the CPC Central Committee.

Falun Gong constitutes a serious disturbance to the cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics and the overall situation of reform, development and stability, and therefore must not be allowed to continue to exist and further develop, noted the researcher.

According to journalists in news media affiliated to the central authorities, such as People's Daily, Qiushi magazine and China Daily, the current struggle against Falun Gong is a "serious political struggle" in which the two sides are fighting for the occupation of the ideological front and for public support.

"Whether we can win the victory in this struggle will have a bearing on the guiding role of Marxism in our Party, on the consolidation of our Party's ruling party status and public support, as well as on the future and destiny of the Party and the state," said an editor at Guangming Daily.

Many former Falun Gong practitioners in the central authorities departments repented that they had exercised Falun Gong because they were deceived and never got a chance to learn the truth.

"Now that we have seen the harmful nature of Falun Gong, we will draw a clear line of demarcation with all Falun Gong organizations and will never participate in any Falun Gong activities again," one former Falun Gong practitioner said.

Many Party members in the central authorities departments said that while they will undoubtedly keep themselves away from any Falun Gong practice in according with the CPC Central Committee's requirements, they will also persuade their family members and relatives not to believe in or exercise the Falun Gong.

"The Falun Gong organizations have used extremely evil means to cheat the public and have caused very serious consequences," said an angry scholar with the Chinese Academy of Sciences. "The government must deal a heavy and merciless blow on Falun Gong to root it out as quickly as possible." (Xinhua)
