China Bans Falun Gong

Senior CPC Official on Dealing With Falun Gong

A leading official of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said in Beijing July 23 that it is now necessary and timely to deal with the problem of Falun Gong in China.

In an interview with reporters from the People's Daily, the official said that the central government's decision to deal with Falun Gong represents the will of the whole Party and all of the Chinese people.

The move conforms to the fundamental interests of the Chinese people of all nationalities, and it will facilitate the favorable situation of maintaining stability and unity, China's reforms, opening up and modernization, he said.

He said that the malicious fallacies spread by Li Hongzhi and his Falun Gong organization deceived some people, caused disturbances and undermined stability.

He said that the struggle against Falun Gong is a serious political and ideological struggle.

He called for a comprehensive publicity campaign to be launched on the central government's policies toward Falun Gong, aiming to unite and educate the overwhelming majority of the practitioners, and extricate them from Falun Gong's malicious fallacies.

He stressed that it is important to differentiate those who practice keep-fit exercises from those who spread superstition and ordinary Falun Gong practitioners from a handful plotters and organizers of illegal activities, and to make a distinction between genuine religious beliefs and legal religious activities from Falun Gong organizations.
