Tianjin Normal University Expresses Support on Ban of Falun Gong
"We gives our firm support to the correct and timely decision of the CPC Central Committee on banning Falun Gong."said Wei Zhengbo, secretary of the Tianjin Normal University Party committee on the afternoon of July 22.
Tianjin Normal University is a victim of Falun Gong. The 4th issue of "Youth Science and Technology Overview", a journal sponsored by Tianjin Normal University, published a special article entitled "I Disapproves Youth Practicing Qi Gong", written by He Zuoxiu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in which Falun Gong and its founder Li Hongzhi were mentioned at three places. After its publication, quite a few Falun Gong practitioners phoned the editorial department of the journal to express their unhappiness with the author of the article and the journal.
From April 19-23, dozens, hundreds and at most 6300 Falun Gong practitioners rallied at the compound of Tianjing Nornal University. They held sit-in or silent standing there that severely disturbed the normal teaching order. Teachers and students of the university had much difficulty in going in and out of the campus gate.
"It is an organized and plotted act for the besiege of the university by Falun Gong practitioners." Zhou Shaolu, editor-in-chief of "Youth Science and Technology Overview", reveals the fact. "There is nothing wrong in Mr. He's article. In the face of the irrational demands by the exercisers, we did not make any concession. Their rally was not simply targeted at an article." According to Zhou's introduction, Mr. He's article received much support from the staff working in the field of science and technology, and publication and education. For instance, the Education Commission of Wuqing County of Tianjin, regulated explicitly that the practice of Falun Gong is forbidden around primary and secondary schools.
"Normal University is a place for training teachers. Youth Science and Technology Overview is intended for readers of the younger generation. Falun Gong competes with us for the masses, the ideological position and the future." Wei expressed his determination to win the fight for the future with the university as the forward position for promoting science and opposing superstition.
