China Wants to Further Ties With EU
Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan on July 26 discussed with his Finnish counterpart Tarja Halonen China's relationship with the European Union (EU).
China attaches great importance to developing its relationship with the EU and hopes that China-EU ties will be further developed during Finland's rotating presidency of the EU, Tang said.
He said that China is ready to hold the second meeting of the leaders of China and the EU at an appropriate time later this year in Beijing.
Halonen said that the EU equally attaches importance to China and is ready to further its relationship with China in depth and in wider areas.
The EU recently issued a statement to reaffirm the "one China" policy, Halonen said.
The EU gives priority to the issue of China's entry into the World Trade Organization and is ready to resume negotiations with China on the issue at an early date, Halonen said.
On Monday, Tang also met with Malaysian Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar on the sidelines of the 6th ASEAN Regional Forum.
During the meeting, Tang and Hamid exchanged views on some issues in bilateral relations.
Foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), China, Japan and South Korea met on Monday night in an informal dinner here. (Xinhua)
