Chinese, Indonesian FMs Meet in Singapore
Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan Monday met with his Indonesian counterpart Ali Alatas in Singapore.
Tang said that China is pleased to see that the elections in Indonesia have been a success and come to an end, and its economy has embarked on the road to recovery.
As a friendly neighbor of Indonesia's, China sincerely hopes that Indonesia will enjoy stability and national harmony, its economy will soon begin to grow in a sound way and the country will continue to play its due part in regional and international affairs, Tang said.
Alatas expressed satisfaction over the development of its relations with China in a wide range of areas in recent years.
Alatas said there will be no change in Indonesia's policy of promoting a friendly and cooperative relationship with China, which he said will be further strengthened in political, economic and other fields.
The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on issues related to the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
Tang stressed that the role and the authority of the United Nations should be respected, otherwise the pillar of the international security structure would be undermined, thus threatening the sovereignty of a vast number of developing countries and creating chaos in the international order.
Alatas agreed with Tang that the principles enshrined in the U.N. Charter should also find expression in ASEAN meetings. (Xinhua)
