China, Russia to Enhance Cooperation
Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan met with his Russian counterpart Igor Ivanov in Singapore on July 25 and the two exchanged views on bilateral relations and international issues of common concern.
Tang said the Chinese side has mounted earnest efforts in preparation for the second Sino-Russian informal summit slated for Autumn this year.
Tang hopes both sides will make common efforts to ensure fruitful the summit, and the scheduled visit to China by President Boris Yeltsin as well, and enhance bilateral cooperation between China and Russia in various fields, and on major international issues.
Ivanov said Russia will further strengthen its coordination and cooperation with China on international issues.
He also said that President Yeltsin is looking forward to meeting with Chinese President Jiang Zemin when they attend an informal summit meeting of the five Central Asian countries scheduled for August 1999 in Bishkek, capital of Kirgystan.
Tan and Ivanov are in Singapore for the ASEAN Regional Forum meeting and meetings between ASEAN and its dialogue partners. (Xinhua)
