Chinese, S'pore FMs Meet in Singapore
Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan met with his Singapore counterpart Shunmugam Jayakumar here Saturday.
Tang said China hopes that participants at the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and the Post-Ministerial Conference would exchange views on major regional and international issues, particularly on the issue of maintaining peace and security in the region.
China also hopes that these meetings will provide guidance to the direction of the forum's future development.
China is ready to play its constructive role in ensuring the success of the ARF, Tang said.
Tang said China regards as "positive" the development and expansion of ASEAN in recent years and values the development of good-neighborly partnership of mutual trust with ASEAN countries.
Jayakumar briefed Tang about the just-ended ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting and said ASEAN hoped to enhance coordination and cooperation with China at the ARF and the Post-Ministerial Conference on July 26-28.
On the Taiwan issue, Jayakumar said all ASEAN foreign ministers have reaffirmed their countries' adherence to the "one China" policy and that Lee Teng-hui's "two-states theory" goes against the will of the people. (Xinhua)
