Chinese FM Calls on Singapore Senior Minister
Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan called on Singapore Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew in Singapore Saturday.
Tang and Lee exchanged views on the Sino-Singapore relations and regional and international issues.
Tang thanked Lee Kuan Yew for the positive contributions he has made to the development of the Sino-Singapore relations.
Tang expressed his appreciation for the Singapore government's adherence to the one China policy and its recent reaffirmation of this stance.
Tang said the current grave situation across the Taiwan Strait was all triggered by Lee Teng-hui, who recently defined the cross-Straits relations as "state-to-state" relations. Tang urged the Taiwan authorities to stop immediately all activities aimed at splitting the motherland and return to the "one China" principle.
The Singapore senior minister said Lee Teng-hui's remarks run counter to the interests of the broad masses in Taiwan and that "Taiwan independence" is doomed to failure. (Xinhua)
