KUNMING
_ A flower or tree looks beautiful and perfectly
content blooming in its natural environment. But through man's
hands, their natural qualities of grace and refinement can be
stunningly enhanced.
The magic which makes these changes occur is called flower
arrangement,ikebana in Japanese. "Idyllic life" With the help
of man's aesthetic awareness, the flowers and plants are
carefully chosen and put in different orders to best express
their most beautiful aspects.
If a painting is an expression of art drawn on canvas with a brush,
flower arrangement is an expression in three dimensions composed of plants, flowers
and vases. The limited living space has made the art of flower arrangement increasingly
popular.

With two or three tree branches, several blossoms in
different
colours and a few green leaves, an entire landscape is recreated
and natural beauty transcended.
The new dimension of liveliness and value that the
flowers
and trees attain |will bring utter enchantment to the designer
as well as the viewers.
The exhibition of flower arrangement now running at
the Man
and Nature Hall in the World Horti-Expo Garden presents an
extravaganza for Expo '99 isitors to explore the charm of this
delightful art. On display are about 200 flower arrangement
works created by 35 participants from all over the country.
Some of the most representative works on display are featured in
this issue.
