Following is a biographical sketch of Zou Jiahua, who was elected vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Ninth National People's Congress:

Zou Jiahua, born in Shanghai in October 1926; joined Communist Party of China June 1945; served in New Fourth Army from 1944 to 1946; college graduate in machine making.

Served as minister in charge of State Machine-Building Industry Commission, state councillor and concurrently minister of Machinery and Electronics Industry, minister in charge of State Planning Commission, and vice-premier of State Council.

Alternate member of 11th CPC Central Committee, member of 12th through 14th CPC Central Committees, and member of Political Bureau of 14th CPC Central Committee.
