Following is a biographical sketch of Zhou Guangzhao, who was just elected vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Ninth National People's Congress(NPC):

Zhou, male; born May, 1929; a native of Changsha City, Hunan Province; joined Communist Party of China (CPC) June, 1952;graduated from Beijing University; researcher, professor;academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Served as researcher of Dubra Joint Nuclear Research Institute, Moscow, former USSR, 1957-1961; deputy director and director ofInstitute of Theoretical Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences,professor of Beijing University, 1982-1984. Served as vice-president of Chinese Academy of Sciences,1984-1987; president of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1987-1997.

Serving as chairman of China Association for Science and Technology since 1996.

Alternate member and member of 12th CPC Central Committee and member of 13th to 15th CPC Central Committees.
