Tomur Dawamat Following is a biographical sketch of Tomur Dawamat, who was just elected vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Ninth National People's Congress (NPC): Tomur Dawamat, male; of Uygur ethnic group; born June, 1927; a native of Toksun, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region; joined Communist Party of China (CPC) December, 1952; started work May,1950; graduated from Central Institute for Nationalities; college education. Served as vice-chairman of Xinjiang Autonomous Regional People's Committee, 1964-1968; secretary of CPC Xinjiang Autonomous Regional Committee, chairman of Standing Committee of Autonomous Regional People's Congress, vice-minister of State Nationalities Affairs Commission, 1979-1985. Served as deputy secretary of CPC Xinjiang Autonomous Regional Committee, 1985-1996; vice-chairman and chairman of Autonomous Regional People's Government, 1985-1994. Serving as vice-chairman of NPC Standing Committee since 1993. Member of 12th to 14th CPC Central Committees and member of Fifth NPC Standing Committee, and vice-chairman of Eighth NPC Standing Committee. |
