Following is a biographical sketch of Buhe, who was just elected vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Ninth National People's Congress (NPC):

Buhe, male; of Mongolian nationality; born March, 1926; a native of Tumd Left Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region;joined Communist Party of China (CPC) July, 1942; started work July, 1939; graduated from Nationalities College of Yan'an University; university education.

Served as secretary of CPC Baotou City Committee, 1974-1978;Standing Committee member of CPC Inner Mongolia AutonomousRegional Committee, vice-minister of State Nationalities Affairs Commission, first Party secretary and mayor of Hohhot City,1978-1981. Served as deputy secretary of CPC Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional Committee, 1981-1993; chairman of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional Government, 1983-1993.

Served as vice-chairman of Eighth NPC Standing Committee after 1993.

Member of 12th and 13th CPC Central Committees.
