Medical Advice: Beware of the Poisoning

or Side-Effect of Anti-Aging Drugs

With the increasing of aging population, middle- and old-aged individuals are focusing on anti-aging drugs, and some of them take the drugs regularly. However, long-term and high dose administration of the drugs may cause poisoning due to their decreased kidney function. Clinical cases of such poisoning occur frequently.

Continuation of using 100mg of Vit.E for six months can cause dysfunction of the digestive system, angular stomatitis, muscular weakness, inflammation of lip, and occasionally low blood glucose, thrombotic phlebitis, and increased level of blood lipid and cholesterol.

Using high dose of Vit.C frequently causes diarrhea and difficult urination because of the sediment of oxalate in the urinary track.

People who take various preparations of traced elements for a long period of time may suffer asexuality (loss of sexual desire), weakness, disorder of the digestive system, hypersensitivity, and depression.

"Ginseng abuse syndrome" is caused by long-term use of 3g ginseng per day. The syndrome includes hypertension with hypersensation, anxiety, insomnia (sleepless), excitation, mental disorder, chest tightness, abdominal distension, etc. There were reports of poisoning and hypersensitive side effects regarding various ginseng preparations available in the market. Long-term use of ginseng can induce nosebleed in physically strong persons.

Eating honey may also poison some people. The poisoning symptoms include fever, headache, diarrhea, dizziness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, numbness in extremities, decreased appetite, panic, short of breath, and even unconsciousness.

Traditional Chinese medical preparations for nourishing "heart" should not be taken frequently. Because such preparations usually contain cinnabar, causing chronic mercury poisoning, demonstrating loss of appetite, nauseaand dysentery-like diarrhea.

Long-term use of fleece-flower root may cause loose stool, and light pain in abdomen, nausea, vomiting, as well as numbness of extremities and rash in some cases.

Accordingly, the aged persons should be cautioned in using anti-aging drugs. Advice from physician is given.
