Shanghai Prepares for Fortune Forum

As a series of projects created for the '99 Fortune Forum were completed one after another, Shanghai is now well prepared for the forum, according to sources with the municipal government.
Presidents and CEOs of over 300 overseas big companies, world celebrities as well as leaders of 200 Chinese enterprises are expected to participate in the event.
The prime venue for the conference, the Shanghai International Convention Center, built at a cost of 800 million yuan, became operational on August 8, and the press center on the fifth floor is expected to accommodate some 500 reporters from China and abroad.
The Pudong International Air Port, which will accommodate 60 special planes bringing participants to the forum, reopened on September 16 after a 13-billion-yuan facelift was completed to refurbish the terminal building and add a 4,000-meter-long runway.
Shanghai has also used 200 million yuan in company-donated funds to prepare 385 luxury sedans and 155 passenger buses to serve the forum.
The staffs of the Hyatt Hotel and the Shangri-La Hotel, which will provide rooms for representatives to the forum, have received special training.
Xu Kuangdi, mayor of Shanghai, told a press conference recently that the city will offer high-quality services to business people from all over the world. (Xinhua)
