New Shanghai International Conference Center In Full Swing

Along with the upcoming three-day 99' Fortune Global Forum which opens on September 27, nearly 20 other international conferences have booked the Conference Center for their meeting site.
The center is also being considered as the meeting site for the Dow-Jones Asian Forum next May, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) annual meeting in the year 2001, and the Conference for the Asian Development Bank Presidents in 2002.
The center, next to the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Shanghai, cost 800 million yuan (about 96 million US dollars), was completed on August 8 this year and open on August 22.
The center has two components, the conference and exhibition halls, and a hotel. The multi-functional hall can accommodate 4, 000 people, has a 3,600-square-meter news conference hall, a meeting room for 800 people, and another over 20 meeting rooms of various types.
Zhu Xiangang, general manager of the Shanghai International Conference and Exhibition Company, said the center is now applying for the membership in the International Congress and Conference Association (ICCA).
The ICCA, established in 1964, is an international organization offering consultation services for international conferences, with headquarters in Amsterdam. (Xinhua)
