Spokeswoman: Chinese Government Attaches Importance to Fortune Forum in Shanghai

Chinese President Jiang Zemin will announce the opening of the Fortune global forum to be held in Shanghai and make a keynote speech in the opening session, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue in Beijing September 21.
Zhang told the regular press conference that Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji is scheduled to meet part of the participants in the forum later in Beijing.
All this shows the importance the Chinese Government attaches to the meeting, she said.
The forum, sponsored by Time Warner Corp. of the United States, is slated to be held from September 27 to 29 in Shanghai.
According to Zhang, executives from 60 multi-national corporations out of the leading 500 corporations worldwide selected by Fortune have agreed to attend the meeting.
Some 200 out of the top 500 Chinese corporations will also be present at the meeting, she said. (Xinhua)
