FM Spokesman on Taiwan Issues
BEIJING, September 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi today urged the Taiwan authorities to retract Lee Teng-hui's "two states" statement for stabilizing the cross- straits situation.
"It's the only way to safeguard the immediate interests of the people in Taiwan," Sun said at a routine press conference.
During the latest summit meeting with Chinese President Jiang Zemin in New Zealand, US President Bill Clinton reiterated the U. S. government's stand on adherence to the "one China" policy, Sun noted.
