Slovakia Stresses "One China" Policy


BEIJING, October 11 (Xinhua) -- Chairman of the National Council of Slovakia, Jozef Migas, stressed here today that his country will uphold the "one China" policy and not support any separatist attempts by the Taiwan authorities.

The chairman, who arrived here yesterday for a seven-day official visit, made the statement in a meeting with Chinese Vice- Premier Qian Qichen.

He said that his country holds the position that the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government of China, and that Taiwan is part of Chinese territory.

Qian said he was thankful for Slovakia's consistent stand on the Taiwan issue, and added that China is willing to further expand relations with Slovakia in economic and trade areas as well as other fields.

The Chinese vice-premier also said that China would like to see Slovakia play its due role in European and world affairs.
