Afro-China Council Supports
One-China Policy
ABUJA, August 14 (Xinhua) -- The Council for Afro-China Affairs, a
Nigeria-based African non-governmental organization expressed here Saturday its full
support of one-China policy.
"The council fully supports the just struggle of the Chinese people to re-unite their
motherland under the internationally recognized government in Beijing", said chairman
of the organization Essien at a party in the Abuja Office of the Chinese Embassy.
"We therefore urge the Taiwan authorities to respond positively to the constructive
proposal of the central government for a peaceful re-unification of China, and restrain
from utterances and activities that undermine the unification," he said.
Africa, which suffered from the arbitrarily carving out by foreign powers, knows very well
the scars of such partitioning as left-over from history, he added.
It is the council's view that China will never have a "state to state" relation
with Taiwan, whether it is special or not, and therefore, it urged the Taiwan authorities
to face squarely the historically-determined route of national reunification, he said. |
