Anti-China Bill Firmly Opposed, FM Spokesman

BEIJING, August 5 (Xinhua) -- China strongly resents and firmly opposes a recent bill submitted by a few U.S. congressmen in support of "one China, one Taiwan" and "the independence of Taiwan, " said Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao here today.

In response to a journalist's question, Zhu said that the Chinese side has already made a serious representation with the U. S. government concerning that bill, and has urged the U.S. to take concrete actions to prevent its passage.

"China demands that the U.S. congressmen immediately stop their actions of interfering in China's internal affairs and infringing upon China's sovereignty and territorial integrity," he said.

Zhu described the bill as "a serious infringement of China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, a gross interference in China's internal affairs, and an open provocation against all the Chinese people."

The spokesman reiterated that "there is only one China in the world. The government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing China and Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory," adding that this is universally acknowledged by the international community, including the U.S. government.
