Taiwan Explanation on
"Special State-to-State Relations" Refuted
BEIJING, August 4 (Xinhua) -- The head of the Taiwan Work
Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council
today refuted the Taiwan authorities' written explanation on "special state-to-state
relations".
The official said the "Mainland Affairs Council" of the Taiwan
authorities issued a so-called "written explanation on special state-to-state
relations" on August 1.
He said Lee Teng-hui did not dare to openly advocate his "two- states"
statement amid strong criticism by Chinese people worldwide and the pressure of the
reiteration by the international community of the "one China" policy.
So Lee tried to propagate "special state-to-state relations" instead, in
a bid to continue deceiving Taiwan people and the international community, and his final
target is still the "two states" statement.
The official said the written explanation insisted that the two sides of the Taiwan
Straits have been divided into two states, and China's sovereignty and territory have been
cut apart based on Lee 's remarks.
In fact, the official said, the Taiwan authorities wanted to cover up the splittist
nature of their "two-states" statement with the so-called "special
characteristics."
As is known to all that the government of the People's Republic of China is the
only legitimate government for the whole of China, and during cross-straits negotiations
several basic points must be insisted upon, that is, there is only one China in the world
and Taiwan is part of China, and China's sovereignty and territory can not be split up,
the official said.
He said the insistence upon the "two-states" statement is a challenge to
China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a challenge to the practical and
long-term interest of the Taiwan compatriots and to the peace and stability in the
Asia-Pacific region.
This act will be severely punished by history, he stressed. |
