Chinese Territory and Sovereignty Not Allowed to Separate: People's Daily Commentator

A People's Daily commentary points out that Chinese territory and sovereignty can not be separated.

Lee Teng-hui openly publicized his "Two-States" statement through the foreign media, the article says, exposing his real ambition to split Chinese territory and sovereignty.

Widely condemned for his separatist remarks, Lee still goes his own way trying to split Taiwan from the motherland. Lee's theory is accepted by some separatists in the island, who attempt to turn the "Two-States" theory into the policy of Taiwan, and intend to amend the constitution according to the theory, the article says.

Lee has been engaged in promoting Taiwan independence for a long time, and is deliberately planning to split Taiwan from the motherland, the article notes.

"But it was never before done so openly or boldly. This time his open remarks that relations between Taiwan and the mainland should be dealt with on a "State-to-State" basis shed his mask, exposing his attempt at Taiwan independence," the article says.

Unfortunately, this time Lee again made the mistake of wishful thinking that the world would go along with his theory and make Taiwan an international issue, thereby seeking an excuse for intervention by international forces. Although the world is not peaceful at present, peace and development are still the general trend.

China is continuing to gain greater international status, and the United Nations and the great majority of the countries in the world now recognize that there is only one China, and Taiwan is part of Chinese territory.

Lee has underestimated the firm determination and ability of the Chinese government and people in safeguarding the sovereignty and territory of the country as well as the great cohesive power of the Chinese nation. Those who dare to split the country will be doomed to failure, the article says.

Although Lee and his followers claim they have not changed their policy toward the mainland, and intend to further promote talks and negotiations across the Taiwan Straits, their self- contradictory words just do not hold water, the article continues.

The article says a complete analysis of Lee Teng-hui's past remarks and activities have shown that Lee is a sophist who uses specious words to cover his true nature as a deep-rooted separatist.

"Sophism just will not save Lee Teng-hui, nor can the will for unity among the Chinese people at home and abroad be undermined. The only way for Lee Teng-hui is to immediately stop separatist activities, abandon the 'Two-States' statement, and resume the policy of adhering to the 'One China' principle," the article concludes.
