Chinese Ambassador Praises
Bonn's Stand on Taiwan
BONN, July 16 (xinhua) -- The German government's adherence
to the one-China policy is appreciable, said Lu Qiutian, the Chinese ambassador in Bonn,
Friday.
At an interview with Xinhua, Lu praised the German government's stand of developing
Sino-German ties and acknowledging Beijing as the only legitimate Chinese government.
Earlier Friday, a German Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed that Bonn would not change
its China policy and that only one Chinese government was acknowledged.
Lee Teng-hui, the leader of Taiwan authorities, told German Deutsche Welle radio earlier
this week that the Chinese mainland and Taiwan would be a "state-to-state"
relationship. Lee's separatistic remarks have aroused cross-straits tension.
Referring to Lee's speech, Lu commented, "What the Taiwan authorities attempt is to
exploit German media to spread separatism, mislead international opinion, and disturb
Sino-German relationship. That must be futile."
The Sino-German ties are developing in good trends, and the cooperations between the two
countries are being continuously intensified and expanded in all fields, said Lu.
Lee's remarks will not change the fact that Taiwan is a part of Chinese territory and the
Chinese government owns sovereignty over it, and it is a basic rule accepted by the
international society, he added.
"The Chinese nation is a great nation that has created a unified country with the
longest history in the world. The integration of national territory and sovereignty is
most valued in Chinese civilization," said the Ambassador.
"The Chinese government and people have supported the re-unification of Germany. And
I have every reason to expect our re-unification will win the backing of the German
government and people, who lived in a separated nation for so many years," he said. |
