Lee Teng-Hui's Remarks "Unfortunate, Unwise": Tung

HONG KONG, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region said here today that what Mr. Lee Teng-hui said about the cross-Strait relations was " unfortunate, unwise".

Responding to inquiries from the press about his comment on Lee 's remarks on the cross-Strait relations,

Tung said that the "one- China" policy "is the very foundation of discussion moving forward between the parties involved."

This particular "one-China" policy "is actually very much accepted internationally as well as by Chinese people everywhere, on the mainland, in Taiwan, overseas and in Hong Kong," Tung said.

"I believe the reunification of the entire country is something that is going to happen and that cannot be stopped," he stressed.

The chief executive will begin his summer holidays Saturday. From July 20, Tung will be spending a few days in San Francisco, the United States, and also in Silicon Valley.

While in the U.S., Tung will meet leaders in the fields of politics, commerce and industry to exchange views on the possibility of increasing trade and investment. He will also explain to them the latest development in Hong Kong.
