Patent Trading Booms in China

LANZHOU, August 19 (Xinhua) -- More than 3,000 patents were traded at the eighth national fair on patents for new products, which closed recently in this capital city of northwest China's Gansu Province.

The fair has attracted enterprises, research institutes and government institutions from 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.

The total value of transactions stricken at the fair hit 219 million yuan. The new technological items and products that aroused wide interest at the fair cover the fields of chemicals, electronics, construction and building materials, energy, communications, environmental protection, medicines, agriculture, forestry and light industry.

Wu Boming, deputy director of the State Intellectual Property Office, said his office had received 930,000 applications for patents by the end of June and granted 470,000 patents, which had yielded good social and economic results.
