China Invests 24 Billion Yuan in Railway Construction

BEIJING, August 16 (Xinhua) -- China invested 24.03 billion yuan (2.89 billion US dollars) in railway construction during the January-July period this year, a slight increase over the same period of last year, said the Ministry of Railways today.

The ministry invested 20.49 billion yuan in railway construction, an increase of 17.3 percent over the same period last year. Meanwhile, local governments and companies also invested 2.97 billion yuan in railways. The ministry said that construction projects are going smoothly.
