Exports from Guangdong Increasing

Exports from south China's Guangdong Province, which reported negative growth from January to June this year, hit a record 7.17 billion US dollars-worth in July, up seven percent from the same period of 1998.

This was the first increase reported by the province's export sector this year. Guangdong's exports generally account for 40 percent of the country's total.

Export for the overall trade of the province stood at 1.63 billion US dollars-worth in July, a six percent increase from the corresponding period of 1998. Processing trade witnessed a 0.03 percent increase between January and July.

The provincial foreign trade and economic commission is to adopt a series of measures to further stimulate exports.
