Foreign Businessmen Encouraged to Invest in Central, Western China

The Chinese government is working on policies to encourage more foreign businessmen to invest in central and western China.

According to Xie Shusheng, president of the China Association of Foreign-Funded Enterprises, foreign-funded enterprises in central and western China will enjoy more preferential policies than those in eastern China.

The agricultural, transportation, energy, raw material and environmental sectors will be given top priority in attracting foreign funds, Xie said.

Meanwhile, the state also encourages foreign-funded enterprises in eastern China to invest in central and western China.

At the two-day '99 Chengdu Business Affairs, which ended Tuesday in this capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, nine foreign companies have reached 25 initial agreements worth 500 million US dollars with 17 Chinese companies.

The symposium was attended by more than 100 representatives from 70 transnational corporations.
