Zhuhai Holds Investment, Trade Fair in Macao

MACAO, August 3 (Xinhua) -- Zhuhai, a boom city in south China' s Guangdong Province bordering Macao, started a three-day investment and trade fair here Tuesday to solicit more funds from Macao investors and boost trade between the two places.

Investment projects are being publicized and novel products shown at the fair which is organized by the people's government of Zhuhai, a special economic zone which attracts investors with its appealing environment and extensive business opportunities.

More than 300 business people from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and many places around the world were invited to the fair.

"We believe that the fair will strengthen economic and trade cooperation between Zhuhai and Macao and bring about benefits to the two places as Macao is returning to the motherland in just 139 days," said Zhou Benhui, a vice-mayor of Zhuhai.

Statistics show that Macao business people have started nearly 1,800 projects in Zhuhai since China's reform and opening-up in 1978. The figure accounted for 33.26 percent of all projects with the participation of investors outside Zhuhai.

Macao also acts as a major entrepot for exported goods from Zhuhai to other parts of the world, and an important link to bolster the ties between Zhuhai and business people from Taiwan.
