State-Owned Enterprise More Profitable in First Half Year

BEIJING, August 3 (Xinhua) -- In the first six months this year, the profits of China's state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and state- holding industries grew 2.8 times over the same period last year to 24.31 billion yuan.

From January to June, these industries achieved an added value of 553.8 billion yuan, up 7.6 percent or 4 percentage points higher than the same period last year, said Zheng Silin, vice- minister of the State Economic and Trade Commission, at a press conference here today.

During the period, the total industrial added value of the country reached 970.3 billion yuan, up 9.4 percent or 1.5 percentage points higher than the corresponding period of last year, he said.
