"Cock Crowing"---Biggest Ancient Courier Station in China

"Cock Crowing", a major relic site at Huailai of Hebei Province put under state protection, was once the biggest courier station and an ancient city found existent to this day in China, with a perimeter near 2 kilometers and two gates in east and west. In past times it was for couriers to have a rest and change post horse. A courier station from the Yuan time (1271-1368), it had since developed into a large traffic hub linking Beijing and northwest regions during the reigns of Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1616-1911) until 1913 when the Northern Warlords Government abolished all courier stations nationwide. By now, the station still keeps all its old ground structures extant against a backdrop of its distinguished past as of stables, shops, schools, drill and residential grounds etc. There are also residents living in this courier city today.
