China's First Welfare Lottery Exclusive Dealership Shop Opens inShanghai

A welfare lottery exclusive dealership shop which claims to be the first of its kind in China has opened on Nanjing Road in east China's Shanghai.

The shop sells different kinds of lottery tickets, including some issued by computer which allows customers to carefully analyze and choose.

For open-on-spot tickets, customers randomly choose three numbers and buy tickets with those numbers. Only half an hour later, the results are announced and they know if they are winners.

At the same time, hundreds of lottery ticket samples issued from the Qing dynasty (1644-1911) until present day are on display in the shop. Therefore, customers can not only buy lottery tickets but also learn China's lottery history.

Records show that Shanghai has set up over 1,000 welfare lottery ticket sales outlets so far, offering job opportunities for more than 2,000 laid-off workers.

Last year, the lottery sales of Shanghai exceeded 1.16 billion yuan and the per capita investment in lottery of the city reached 88 yuan, setting a national record.

The Shanghai municipal government will pool 80 percent of its next three years' welfare lottery income to improve the lives of elderly people.
