Jiang Zemin Meets Motorola Board Members
Chinese President Jiang Zemin Wednesday met with a delegation from the Motorola board headed by Christopher Galvin, chairman and chief executive officer of the Motorola. Inc. Both two sides support to further promote the cooperation between Chinese information and Motorola.

Jiang set a high value on the achievements Motorola has made in China and extended his support for further economic and technical cooperation between the Chinese information industry and Motorola.

Christopher Galvin said that the directorate of Motorola has full confidence in the Chinese market and will promote closer cooperation with information industry players of the country.

Christopher came to Beijing to hold an annual board meeting of Motorola. It is the first annual board meeting that Motorola has ever held outside the United States.

Christopher began working at Motorola in summer jobs in 1967 and joined the company full-time in 1973. In 1983, he joined Tegal Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Motorola and manufacturer of plasma etching and stripping equipment for the semiconductor industry, as vice president, marketing, sales and service. In January, 1990, he joined the office of the CEO as senior executive vice president and assistant chief operating officer. He was elected president and chief operating officer in December 1993, and chief executive officer in January 1997.

Wu Jichuan, Minister of Information Industry, was also present at the meeting.



Motorola, founded by Paul V. Galvin as the Galvin Manufacturing Corporation in Chicago in 1928, is a global leader in providing integrated communications solutions and embedded electronic solutions. By the end of the 1980s, Motorola had become the premier worldwide supplier of cellular telephones. Following the merger with General Instrument Corporation, Motorola became a leader in cable modems and set-top terminals. It is harnessing the power of wireless, broadband and the Internet to deliver embedded chip system level and end-to-end network communication solutions for the individual, work team, vehicle and home.
