Chinese, Guinea-Bissau Chiefs of General Staff Held Talks

China and Guinea-Bissau have in recent years had fruitful cooperation in political, economic and military fields, said Fu Quanyou, chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Wednesday.

Fu, also a member of the Central Military Commission, made the remark while holding talks with Verissimo Seabra, chief of General Staff of the armed forces of Guinea-Bissau, who came to China on November 5 at Fu's invitation.

China and Guinea-Bissau have a traditional friendship, Fu said. "The friendly relations of cooperation between China and Guinea-Bissau and the two countries' armed forces are not only in the fundamental interests of the two peoples, but also conducive to regional and world stability and development."

The two countries share common views on a wide-range of important international issues, Chi said. China thanks Guinea-Bissau for abiding by the "One China" stance, he said.

Fu briefed Seabra on China's independent foreign policy of peace and its principled stand on counter-terrorism.

Seabra said Guinea-Bissau attaches great importance to its relations with China. He expressed belief that the current visit will promote friendly exchanges between the two countries and their armed forces.

Earlier, Fu hosted a welcome ceremony for Seabra.
