New Aviation Group to Be Formed

A new airline group combining China Southern Airlines Co. Ltd., China Northern Airlines and China Xinjiang Airlines will be set up soon in an attempt to meet challenges from the domestic and overseas aviation markets.

Talks have been held several times among the three airlines said Principal for Southern Airlines in an interview and after a busy preparation and operation, they have come to a common view on main issues concerning the regrouping. At present, all things for the new group are well prepared except the approval by department concerned.

According to the principal, organizing the three into one is aimed at reinforcing their competitive edge. The cooperation will also mean a triangle aviation network giving more convenience to passengers, he added. The new group will have a fixed assets of RMB 50bn yuan, ranking second in the domestic aviation market, and a giant fleet of 180 airplanes.

China Northern Airlines was established in northeast China where it sees a great potential in economic development and aviation industry. And Xinjiang Airlines enjoys a convenient transportation for its headquarters city is Urumqi, a major transportation hub connecting Asia and Europe. With aggregative advantages in both geography and culture, the new group will certainly have a bright future for further development.
